Milk and Honey

“If the Lord delights in us, He will bring us into this land and give it to us, a land that flows with milk and honey.” Numbers 14:8

This one is for the one who is in the same place, crying the same tears, feeling the same pain, or doesn’t see anything beyond their current circumstances.

We all have these pains in our life that keep coming back, heartbreak that doesn’t seem to ever leave. And we find ourselves once again crying the same tears over the same pain. And we are tired—tired of fighting these same things tired of hoping for more, and tired of walking through these storms.

I’m right there with you.

Tonight, the Lord showed me something that I think is a revelation of how we were created.

In Numbers, we find the story of Moses and the Israelites before they enter into the promise land. God has already promised this land—and God always fulfills His promises. Moses sends 12 spies into the land and when they return, the report back that the land is filled with giants and armies and all these things that scare them away from wanting to go into it.

And I think that this is us so often—we know that God has promised us good things, promised to never leave or forsake us, to protect us, to provide for us, to be our joy and peace, and to love us. But we walk through life and we see the promised land but instead of focusing on the word of God, we focus on all the things in the way—the broken relationships, the unending pain, the finances, the scars that left us insecure and feeling unworthy. And sometimes, the pain seems like more than we can handle—it overwhelms, it aches, and it feels like it’ll lag forever. And we focus on these things so much that we lose sight of our promised land, our promises of flowing milk and honey.

But when we keep reading the story, we see two guys that stood apart from the rest. Caleb and Joshua both focused on the promise of God and saw that nothing would stand in the way of that—no army, no giants, no big walls or evil people. And because of their faith, they were the only ones who would actually get to see the promised land 40 years later.

Listen to me: no pain is too great, no storm is too powerful, no heart break or disappointment is stronger than the unfailing promises of the Creator of the Universe— a Creator who doesn’t expect perfection, doesn’t have limits, and who has already won the battle.

What if we had faith like Caleb and Joshua? What if instead of letting the the things that we see no way past discourage us, we instead look to the Lord and focus on His promises —promises flowing with milk and honey—and let them remind us that the God who brought the Israelites out of Egypt and raised Christ from the dead still sees us today and walks with us through it all.

Your land flowing with milk and honey stands on the other side of this storm. But Jesus— He stands with you in the storm and isn’t going to let you drown. He loves you, He cares for you, and He is never going to let you go.
